ATELIER THEATRE WORKSHOPS SUPPORT YOUNG WOMEN’S ACCESS TO THE ARTS

From October 15th to the 30th, 2016, in Montreal’s Mile End, Imago Theatre will host Atelier, a series of workshops for the professional and creative development of theatre artists.The workshops will give emerging and established theatre artists of all disciplines the opportunity to “develop their craft” with mentorship and instruction by leading professionals in the field including Leslie BakerMicheline ChevrierMartha Ross and Anana Rydvald. All proceeds from the $75 workshop fee will act as a donation to support programming for ARTISTA, Imago Theatre’s free theatre mentorship program for young women.

Leslie Baker has taught the Six Viewpoints and a physical approach to acting at the National Theatre School of Canada, Concordia University, Studio 303, University of Costa Rica, amongst others.”- On Atelier workshop leader Leslie Baker (Moving in Space)

Micheline Chevrier has worked across Canada and abroad as a director, artistic director, dramaturge and teacher. As a director, she has worked at such theatres as The Shaw Festival, the National Arts Centre, Theatre Calgary, the Globe Theatre,Manitoba Theatre Centre, Canadian Stage, Centaur Theatre and many more.”- On Atelier workshop leader Micheline Chevrier (Tackling Text and Meeting the Director) 

Martha Ross co-founded Theatre Columbus with Leah Cherniak after she graduated from École Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Continuing in the spirit of their training, their company created twenty-eight original comedies, including the world renowned The Anger in Ernest & Ernestine (1987)”- On Atelier Workshop leader Martha Ross (The Character’s Voice)

Anana Rydvald trained as an actress and mask artist in both Europe and Canada and is a teacher at John Abbott College in Mime and Improvisation. She worked for the renowned Scandinavian Theatre group Cantabile 2 and was awarded a Mecca for her self-written mask show Section O.”-On Atelier Workshop leader Anana Rydvald

Atelier will feature Unmaskingan Exploration of Body Awareness and Play through Mask with Anana RydvaldMeeting the DirectorDemystifying the Audition Process with Micheline ChevrierThe Character’s VoiceA Physical Approach into Theatre Creation with Martha RossTackling TextMining a Theatrical Text (for theatre creators of all disciplines) with Micheline Chevrier; and Moving in Space, Engaging with Space and Time within an Ensemble

All proceeds from the workshop fees will go towards supporting ARTISTAARTISTA builds and empowers a community of Montreal’s female youth while encouraging artistic independence, confidence and increased knowledge in artistic craftsmanship through mentorship, creative collaboration and performance training in a professional environment.

Atelier Workshops are $75 with a $50 donation tax receipt. Workshops will take place at @Playwrights’ Workshop Montreal located at 5337 St. Laurent #240 (only Unmasking) and Variations Dance Studio located at 5555 Avenue de Gaspé, #217 (all other workshops).
