In case you didn’t know, english is not my first language and  I sometimes get stuck in awkward situations because of it. Lucky me, when I went to the Smut Slam Fringe edition, it turned out amazing, but I should have look up the definition of Smut before I went into this! shortly after my arrival, I felt the obligation to learned the definition of  the term smut in the Urban Dictionary

“Yummy erotic fiction or art. A writing style that is sexually explicit and generally associated with females. ”

Not too sure about the associated with females part but you get the point. Slam, also according to the Urban Dictionary, could be described as a poetry style, or :

“a highly charged get-togethers or contests in which poets and rappers exchange their works with inspired verbal presentations. “

Put those two together and you get what is pretty obvious, but there is a twist! Smut Slams are OPEN MIC…

Cameryn Moore introduced Montreal to Smut Slams in the 2011 edition Fringe and she explains it as: ” Where Sexy and Storytelling Collide,” Smut Slam is an event series dedicated to real-life sex stories.”

img_1321.jpgimg_1322.jpgimg_1323.jpgimg_1326.jpgimg_1320.jpgSo there I was, at Le Cagibi, attending my first Smut Slam and I ENJOY EVERY SECOND OF IT! There’s something about sexual voyeurism that no one can escape…and we all enjoy… Right!?
I did not volunteer to slam one of my smut stories, but I was certainly encouraged to do so. If you prefer to keep your mouth shut, as I personally opted, there are other options! You may ask questions or confess anything sexual for a chance to be drawn from the “Fuck Bucket” and win cool, of course sex related, prizes. Both Fringe artists and Smut Slam enthusiasts shared their jaw dropping stories but one thing you have to know: What is told at Smut Slam, stays at Smut Slam… Sorry to disappoint, no juicy stories in this post!
I’ve met with Cameryn and gave me more insights about this series of events. (audio)
We can see more of Cameryn Moore since she also presents nerdfucker at Théâtre MainLine Theatre on June 16-18 and 19.

Smut Slam was a one time event during this year’s Fringe and I am sorry you missed it!  Not to worry, the series is coming back in September, probably going to be at Le Cagibi, and will be then be hosted by Al Lafrance who is also hosting L’APRÈS FRINGE: 13TH HOUR + DANCE PARTY! from June 10th to 19th at le Petit Campus.
