Love The Skin You’re In

We all want to feel beautiful and good in our skin. The media can make that hard. Always portraying what they think is perfect and beautiful. I know I have struggled with my image being a black woman and wanting white hair. If you haven’t seen the documentary “Good Hair” with Chris Rock, I highly recommend that you do. Black woman think to have beautiful they must have long straight hair, falling on either side of our face. There is a reason God made us the way He did. We have nappy, hard to manage hair. Yes we do but it’s beautiful in it’s own way. Once you know how to style it, you can achieve some great looks. Same goes with clothes. Size 2 models with no curves or any kind of personality strut down runways and dictate subconsciously what the latest trends will be and what we think we must imitate in order to achieve beauty. As I have broken out of that mould and appreciate my hair and all it has to offer. Yael Perez is doing the same when it comes plus size girls and fashion.

You have seen the trend with bringing more curvaceous woman into the light. Appreciating the fact that most woman do not fit in a size two and that doesn’t mean you’re ugly or fat. Many campaigns have come out promoting self-esteem and loving who you are, no matter who you are. We need to learn to love the skin we are in.

I’m happy to spread the word about an event spreading just that message coming up this Saturday!

“Love The Skin You’re In” is a fashion event meant to showcase positive body image and provide a platform for designers and boutiques to show off their plus size creations.
