This week I went to check out the Ladies and Gentlemen Comedy Show at Shaika Cafe (5526 Sherbrooke West) in NDG. It is an ongoing room on Tuesday nights, hosted by local comedians Daniel Carin and Chris Sandiford. This past Tuesday was their 23rd show, The Most Mysterious of episodes, which wove an illuminati theme through the stacked lineup!

A functional Café, Shaika comes equipped with a comfort snack menu, organic tea, and a vernissage vibe atmosphere. Before the show started Daniel Carin was happily meeting and greeting and the room was definitely buzzing.

Here are some highlights of the night:

Daniel Carin – This is not a simulated café – it’s REAL

Chris Sandiford – It’s going to be a weird, cool show

Nick Martinello – Alcohol is better than weed, I did my laundry black out drunk – AMBITION!

Stefan Petersen – What happened to just killing people? Jeepers, Creepers!

Jon Selig – Songza is responsible for unwanted pregnancies

Darren Henwood – Spas are stressful!

Gina Freeman – Don’t drop the boyfriend bomb too early

Tommy Marshall – Road head is dangerous!

Walter J Lyng – The culinary equivalent of a snuff film

With a different theme every week this is definitely a place to check out this winter, get cozy and enjoy a belly full of laughs!

Tune in Thursday night to Upstage for Mobtreal’s Comedy Corner on CKUT 90.3fm from 6:00pm – 7:00pm and hear me talk to The Comedy Hostel’s Jon Selig.
