Fancy Nancy is here Montreal!
FANCY NANCY, THE POPULAR CHILDREN’S BOOK, COMES ALIVE AS A MUSICAL ON THE SEGAL STAGE TO ENTERTAIN CHILDREN AGES 12 AND UNDER!
The Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is heading back to the Segal Centre with a production of Fancy Nancy The Musical with book and lyrics by Susan DiLallo and music and lyrics by Danny Abosch. Based on the best-selling children’s book of the same name, Fancy Nancy The Musical had an acclaimed Off-Broadway run from 2012-2014, and is currently touring the United States. The Montreal premiere will be playing on the Segal Mainstage from February 26 to March 5, 2017 and is perfect for girls and boys as young as three years old.
“THIS MUSICAL IS PHENOMENAL (That’s a fancy word for ‘really, really great’)!”
NW Kids Magazine
Based on the popular Fancy Nancy book series by Jane O’Connor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser, this delightful new show follows Fancy Nancy and her friends Bree, Rhonda, Wanda, and Lionel as they prepare to perform in their very first show — “Deep Sea Dances.” Nancy is positive (that’s fancy for “100 percent sure”) that she and Bree will be picked to be mermaids. When another girl wins the coveted role, Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Can Nancy bring a fancy flair to her role, even though it isn’t the one she wanted?
“We are thrilled that the Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society is presenting our first production specifically for children, Fancy Nancy The Musical, at the Segal Centre. We share a belief that supporting arts and culture improves the lives of everyone in the community,” said Côte Saint-Luc Mayor Mitchell Brownstein.
“It is an absolute joy to be bringing Fancy Nancy and her friends to life on the Segal Stage. I have fond memories, of reading these books to my children. Now we have the opportunity to introduce young audiences to the magic of musical theatre through this beloved character,” said Segal Centre Artistic and Executive Director Lisa Rubin.
“FILLS THE THEATRE WITH LAUGHTER, CATCHY SONGS AND LIFE-LONG LESSONS”

Anisa Cameron, the Côte Saint-Luc Dramatic Society Artistic Director, will be directing at the Segal once again following last season’s META-winning Yiddish production of The Producers: A New Mel Brooks Musical, and the 2015 revival of Catch Me If You Can. She has assembled a talented cast of young artists including Segal Academy Teacher Naomi Krajden (recently seen in the Dora-nominated children’s musical Elly’s Emotions) as Fancy Nancy. Aisha Jarvis (Anne of Green Gables, Mamma Mia!, and The Law of Gravity), Patrick Park (Prom Queen: The Musical, Punk Rock, and Hairspray), Jennifer Bond (NINE, A Proper Place, and A Christmas Carol), Samantha Levy (Love, Loss and What I Wore), and Alisha Ruiss (Hairspray, Cabaret, and The Producers in Yiddish) will fill out the cast as Nancy’s friends and family.
The production design showcases the incredible skills of David Terriault (Musical Director), Tina Desrochers (Choreographer), Jeremy Gordaneer (Set Designer), Elyse Malo (Costume Designer), Scott Drysdale (Technical Director/Lighting Designer) and Rachel Germinario (Props Designer).
“I am ecstatic to be bringing Nancy and her world to life at the Segal Centre for Performing Arts with the help of this incredible cast and creative team. I can’t wait to experience the show through the lens of our young audience. It is going to be a vibrant (that’s fancy for “colourful and lively”) production with all the characters they know and love coming to life right before their eyes,” explained Cameron.
