Montreal represents at the Sirius XM Competition

This past Tuesday night was for many a critical hockey game and yes we won. But for those who love to laugh, the Comedy Nest had the Sirius XM competition going on. And despite the hockey game, the place was packed! Twelve of Montreal’s comics were chosen to compete for three spots to move on to the next round. Andrew Searles, Franco Taddeo, Jacy Lafontaine, Joey Elias, Heidi Foss, Jon Malanos, Faisal Butt, Morgan O’Shea, Guido Cocomello, Kate Conner, Tranna Wintour and Paul Ash all came with their best.

Hosted by Ben Miner who you have probably seen on Master Chef Canada, the night was no doubt going to be awesome! He kept the show going and is a perfect example of a great host. Great crowd interaction and prompt introductions when needed. Hosting may appear to be easier than doing a set but both have their challenges.

It was the first time I sat down and watched a comedy show in months and it felt good to reconnect with all my peeps. Ah, the laughter, the jokes, the hand banging on the table… I missed you comedy scene. Rodney Ramsey came in and closed the night, giving time to chose the winners, I was surprised that he wasn’t IN the competition.  Nevertheless, he brought the funny as if he were. A real pro. Although some don’t agree on those chosen, the winners were clear for the judges. Heidi Foss, Joey Elias and Faisal Butt. Congrats to you all!

I have to give a shout out to Tranna Wintour who was probably the best dressed and yes I want her shoes. If you’ve never seen her perform, do it. She is fantastic, witty and confident on stage.  You may be sceptical of her comedy by looking at her but she is proof that you should not judge a book by its cover. Really looking forward to seeing where she goes. Also shout out to Kate Conner who has been really working hard at her craft and it shows. Biting the bullet at a show alone is tough let alone a competition. But she handled it like a lady and started the night off well. Keep up the great work Kate! Once again, real proud of my local comics and wish the winners good luck for the next round. Catch the SiriusXM competition finals at:
