Just released in Montreal~ D Movies and Equinoxe Films are pleased to announce that Kevin Macdonald~ WHITNEY film will open on Friday 13 July. Launched in a midnight screening at the last Cannes Film Festival, the documentary traces the life of the famous singer and actress Whitney Houston, who died tragically in 2012.
Her albums sold over 200 million. She holds the record for the largest number of consecutive 1 numbers. Her song “I Will Always Love You” is the best-selling title by a singer. Behind the record, rumors, scandals, secrets, and glory, here’s the real Whitney.
A documentary about the pop legend Whitney Houston
Known for directing the movie THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (2006) and the Oscar-winning documentary ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER (1999), Kevin MacDonald signs with Whitney his 17th feature film. After painting the portrait of rock legend Mick Jagger into BEING MICK (2001) traced the course of reggae singer Bob Marley MARLEY (2012), the Scottish director returned to documentary and focuses this time on one of the greatest divas of American song.
With new images and made with the approval of the relatives of Whitney Houston, the film manages to unravel some mysteries surrounding the star and poses an intimate look at the one we nicknamed as The Voice. WHITNEY returns including the tumultuous career of the artist who, according to the disturbing revelations of the feature film, was sexually assaulted as a child by his own cousin, soul singer Dee Dee Warwick.
WHITNEY hit theaters original English version and a version subtitled in French on 13 July.
