MTL Sketch Fest : Friday Night Show
The Montreal Sketch Festival is not over yet ! Get your asses at Théâtre Saint-Catherine before it’s over !!! I’m gonna cry for sure… No, I won’t, because I have no feelings. Oh, by the way, this is my first post in the language of Shakespeare, so please be indulgent. Yes, I am a Frenchie, and I use words such as indulgent and pristine. Get used to it.
But that is not the point of this post ! I’m here to talk to you about those crazy guys who were performing on stage yesterday for the fifth night of the MTL Sketch Fest. I was at this comic rendez-vous for the third time this week and I had a blast each night (My articles on the First and Second Night of the Fest). Yesterday was not an exception. I attended the first show of the evening because I have a curfew at home (wait, not you ?) and three troupes from Toronto were there to have a good time in our lovely bilingual city that is Montreal and perform hilarious sketches on stage.
First things first, I have to say that the evening host, Stephanie Tolev, was (pardon my french) fucking hilarious. Her speech about her mustache made me cry. Her use of self-mockery was perfect. Who said girls were not funny ?! This guy is a douche.
Then, The Reception was on stage to perform some hilarious sketches, winning my heart with one on two guys being the same person… Double dragons ! The running gag about this dude who always wants to drink the urine of his friend : Disgusting but really funny ! At the end of their performance, they made everybody get on the stage to celebrate the MTL Sketch Fest : A good way to start the night !
Then, Shoeless was on stage, starting with a sketch about the world’s greatest orange peeler as a guest on a morning TV show ! I really liked the way they played on the thin line between total absurdity and possible situations in everyday life. The game of Scrabble turning bad at your girlfriend’s parents house : Hilarious. Although, I have to say that my favorite sketch was the last one of their performance : A date at a drive-in between two widowers. The comic factor was not on the jokes but on the acting, which was perfect.
And the last troupe but not the least (because I have to admit they were my favorites), Rulers of the Universe. The dubbing of the new Transformers movie with no one else than Orson Welles, a dog trainer really caring about his pupil’s Hollywood career, and an arrogant guy describing how he killed Ben Laden, that is what you missed ! Oh and also, one of those guys really looked like this guy from the movie The Hangover, Zach Galifianakis… Not so much physically but just in a really hilarious way. So yeah, good job guys ! And great job Zach !
If you are feeling sad reading my post because you just realized you missed a hell of a show last night, DON’T WORRY! The Montreal Sketch Festival is not over yet, and tonight’s line-up is impressive : Elephant Empire from Toronto, Onassis from New York, Jape from Toronto AND Ladystache a troupe featuring the great, the beautiful, the hilarious Stephanie Tolev that I discovered last night so don’t miss this show at 8pm ! Also, the Best of the Fest is at 10:30pm ! It’s going to be a party, so see you there and keep shining little diamonds !
Wow, for my first post in english that was not so bad I guess ! I made it !
See you tonight !
Ciao BISOUXXX!
