Happy New Years from Jo!

Happy New Years everyone! I hope you had a great holiday season. Here at Mobtreal, we have a lot going on this year in terms of content and social media. We’ve added a rant page, contest & giveaway page and will be adding podcast & video feeds.

But first let’s talk about what’s going on in Montreal comedy land. The Comedy Nest Nest is kicking ass and still getting recognition as the best comedy club in Montreal. Yuk Yuk’s reopened late last year and seems to still be pulling in butts in the seats. But wait. Oncle Works is not finished making people laugh.

I was so shocked to hear that Comedy Works had closed down like so many others but I knew it couldn’t be the end of such a great thing. News is they are reopening Feb 5th and I couldn’t be happier for the comedy scene. I will have the inside scoop in the next few weeks so stay tuned.

This is the year to monetize. That’s right it’s time to give back to my wonderful bloggers & photographers. You will be seeing paid packages available as of February for events and festivals for those who want promotions before, reviews after and live social media during their event. I believe we offer a valuable service to industries that don’t get the exposure that they need or deserve.  Of course we will be doing our usual “free” rounds but it’s time to go bigger and better.

As an artist in any discipline, promoting yourself is the most important thing to do besides create. If people can’t find information about you, know when your next show is even try and contact you for an event or interview, you aren’t going anywhere. There’s only so much word of mouth can do and if you’re reaching for the starts like many of us, you’re gonna need a huge megaphone. That’s where JJ’s Press comes in. This is my social media company specializing in original & curated content as well as event coverage (Mobtreal). This will is also be my way of giving back to my fellow comedians and offering deals on websites, social media account creation and management as well as consulting on what strategy to take online. Depending where you are in your career, you may need more or less.

This year, we’ll also be recruiting bloggers not just from Montreal but from Toronto, Vancouver,  New York and more. If you like to write, looking to add to your portfolio or just love to go out and meet people then you should join the mob.  Check out the different cities here.
