Romeo and Juliet: A Modern Twist on a Classic Tale
Press Release
Valentine’s Day might be over but the romance continues with Repercussion Theatre‘s 2018 Shakespeare-in-the-Park selection: Romeo and Juliet. The play will tour all over Montreal from July 5th to August 8th, 2018.
Repercussion Theatre‘s Artistic Director, Amanda Kellock, talked about revamping this classic tale by giving it a modern twist: “We’re reimagining Romeo and Juliet through an expanded, more inclusive lens in order to celebrate our collective diversity and affirm that love is love is love.” The artistic director goes on to explain that the main characters will not be a heterosexual couple, defying the heteronormativity of the society.
The company is celebrating their 30th anniversary, and in commemoration of this big milestone, they will also present two plays in the Fall: Thy Woman’s Weeds by playwright Erin Shields and Jeff Ho‘s whisper.
More details will be released regarding these contemporary plays in the next few months, you can find more information on the Repercussion Theatre website.
