In theatre and film, comedy rarely wins any awards. An odd fact, considering most people think that being successful in a comedy is harder than being successful in a drama. You don’t make comedy to win awards or satisfy critics. You do it for only one reason: because laughter is amazing.

The only thing more rewarding than sitting in an audience being entertained and laughing your ass off for an evening is having the opportunity to be on stage and dispense this often over-looked form of medicine.

As winter sets in, some may feel the urge to stay inside – but that’s just another way of promoting the depressing cold months we face in our city. Instead, those who Brave the cold to try something New are likely to feel inspired and energized by Brave New Productions’ latest theatrical event “Done To Death”.
For the past ten years Brave New Productions has been entertaining Montrealers (and Torontonians) with a variety of stage productions. From stand-up comedy nights, to politically charged dramas championing for equality. This Friday January 10th, the company celebrates what it does best: fast-paced comedy, with a stylistic edge. “Done To Death” is an exciting send-up of classic mysteries that parodies every style and nuance of the genre.

The plot focuses on five has-been Mystery Fiction writers who are brought to the mysterious Vulture’s Vault to collaborate on and write a new murder mystery TV series. And then real murders start to happen and hilarity ensues. Ingeniously packed into the script is a parody of every mystery plot, hero, and villain created in the past fifty years.

With an incredible line-up of performers, the show is a culmination of Brave New Productions’ 10th anniversary celebration which has featured highlights including Yasmina Reza’s ‘ART’ and the ground-breaking play “Standing On Ceremony”.
